Hyderabad: Telangana Jagruthi president K Kavita on Sunday alleged that the ongoing Assembly session is witnessing serious democratic lapses, with the absence of the main Opposition allowing the ruling Congress to make false and misleading statements.
Speaking to the media in Suryapet on Sunday, Kavitha said that despite announcing a discussion on Krishna River water sharing, the government has failed to hold a comprehensive debate involving all stakeholder states.
She strongly criticised the Telangana government for maintaining silence on Karnataka’s decision to increase the Almatti dam height, which could result in Telangana losing nearly 100 TMC of water. Kavitha demanded that the Telangana Assembly immediately pass resolutions opposing the Almatti height increase and the national status granted to the Upper Bhadra project.
Kavitha questioned why water allocations for Palamuru–Rangareddy and Narayanpet–Kodangal projects were reduced, and who approved the reduction in Telangana’s water share. She demanded clear answers on agreements that allegedly reduced Telangana’s share by 3 percent, and on the shifting of intake points from Jurala to Srisailam.
The Telangana Jagruthi President accused both the Congress government and the BRS leadership of indulging in political drama, stating that the Assembly boycott weakened the opposition’s responsibility to question falsehoods. She questioned whether the boycott decision was taken by former minister Harish Rao personally or by the BRS high command, warning that abandoning the Assembly debate was a serious political mistake.
Kavitha also raised serious allegations of corruption, land encroachments, infrastructure neglect, illegal sand mining, incomplete irrigation projects, drinking water shortages, pollution of Krishna River, and misuse of public funds in Suryapet district. She demanded immediate administrative action on these issues.
Clarifying her stand, Kavitha said she has no personal grudge against any leader and that her fight is only against corruption, which deprives people of their rightful benefits and weakens democracy.
She acknowledged mistakes made during the previous BRS government and stated that leaders must accept responsibility and correct past errors. Kavitha reiterated that she resigned her MLC post on moral grounds and will continue to raise people’s issues fearlessly through Telangana Jagruthi.
Kavitha stated that she will continue her district-wise tours, engage directly with the people, and speak out against large-scale corruption irrespective of political consequences, asserting that the future of Telangana must be built on accountability, transparency, and public interest.
