Guwahati, Jan 13 (UNI) Eminent Assamese singer Samar Hazarika, the youngest brother of Bharat Ratna Bhupen Hazarika, passed away on Tuesday morning at his Nizarapar residence in Guwahati.
He had been suffering from age-related ailments and was admitted to a city hospital prior to his death.
Born to Nilakanta Hazarika and Shantipriya Hazarika, Samar Hazarika lent his voice to numerous music albums and Assamese films, leaving a lasting mark on the region’s cultural landscape.
Condoling his demise, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma wrote on X, “Anguished by the passing away of veteran singer Shri Samar Hazarika. His soulful voice lit up every occasion and he made indelible contributions to Assam’s cultural scenario. He also carried forward the rich legacy of Sudhakantha Dr. Bhupen Hazarika and extensively contributed to our efforts to celebrate his birth centenary. With his passing, Assam has lost another golden voice. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and admirers in this hour of grief. Om Shanti.”
