India Crosses 400 Million 5G Users by End of 2025; Reliance Jio Leads the Surge

Hyderabad, 23 December: By December 2025, India has firmly established itself as a global telecommunications titan, crossing a major milestone of 400 million (40 Crore) 5G subscribers. Following the fastest infrastructure rollout in history, 5G now accounts for approximately 32% of India’s total mobile subscriptions. While China remains the global leader, India’s unprecedented growth trajectory positions it to close the gap rapidly, with projections estimating 1 billion Indian 5G subscribers by 2030.

Reliance Jio: The Engine of Growth

Reliance Jio is anchoring this revolution, cementing its status as a global technology powerhouse. Key highlights of Jio’s performance include:

• Subscriber Growth: Jio surpassed 510 million total mobile subscribers by October 2025. Its specific 5G user base is projected to reach 260 million by the end of the year.

• Data Surge: Driven by the migration to 5G, average monthly data consumption per Jio user has risen sharply to 38.7 GB. 5G traffic now constitutes 50% of Jio’s total wireless data traffic.

Dominance in Telugu States

Jio continues its undisputed leadership in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, ending 2025 with over 3.2 crore wireless subscribers in the region. The company has also revolutionized home entertainment, with its JioAirFiber service driving wireline subscriber numbers to nearly 20 lakh across the two states.

Future Outlook

The Indian government expects the national 5G base to grow to 430 million by 2026, viewing the target of 1 billion users by 2030 as inevitable as device penetration and infrastructure mature.
