Sangareddy ASI Succumbs to Injuries After Being Hit by Police Vehicle Outside Station
Sangareddy: A wave of grief has swept through the Telangana Police department following the tragic death of Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Govind Naik, who succumbed to his injuries today, April 14, 2026. The veteran officer, posted at the Maanuru Police Station in Sangareddy district, died while undergoing treatment after a department vehicle struck him directly in front of the station premises.
The incident occurred during the early hours of Tuesday when ASI Govind Naik was performing his duties outside the police station. According to preliminary reports, a police vehicle—allegedly driven by a Home Guard identified as Ramarao—suddenly lost control and plowed into the officer. The impact was severe, leaving the ASI with critical internal injuries and fractures. Fellow personnel rushed to his aid and immediately shifted him to a nearby hospital, but despite the best efforts of the medical team, he passed away later in the day.
The case has taken a contentious turn as the victim’s family members have raised serious allegations regarding the nature of the “accident.” Speaking to the media, the grieving relatives claimed that the incident was not a result of a mechanical failure or a lapse in judgment, but rather a deliberate act fueled by a pre-existing grudge. They have demanded a high-level inquiry into the conduct of the Home Guard, who reportedly fled the scene immediately after the collision.
Local police have registered a case and launched a manhunt to apprehend the absconding Home Guard, Ramarao. Senior officials visited the Maanuru Police Station to inspect the site of the mishap and the vehicle involved. While the department has officially stated that an investigation is underway to determine if the crash was an accident or an intentional act, the loss of an officer in such a manner has sent shockwaves through the local community and the district police force.
