South Central Railway Steps Up Monsoon Preparedness

Hyderabad: In view of the monsoon season, sudden winds and heavy rainfalls, Shri Sanjay Kumar Srivastava, General Manager, South Central Railway, conducted a high-level review meeting today i.e., 15th July, 2026 at Rail Nilayam, Secunderabad. The session focused on evaluating the zone’s readiness to tackle challenges posed by heavy rains and ensuring uninterrupted, safe train operations. The meeting was attended by Shri Satya Prakash, Additional General Manager, SCR, along with Principal Heads of Departments. Divisional Railway Managers (DRMs) and their teams from all three divisions’ viz.,Secunderabad, Hyderabad, and Nanded joined via video conference.

With the monsoon season posing heightened risks to infrastructure and operations, Shri Srivastava emphasized the imperative of uncompromising adherence to safety protocols. He conducted a meticulous review of vulnerable assets including bridges, tunnels, and Road under Bridges (RuBs), with a special focus on flood-prone zones and embankments susceptible to erosion. To ensure rapid response capability, officials were directed to maintain strategic reserves of essential materials such as sand, ballast, cement, and boulders. The General Manager also stressed the importance of proactive field inspections, urging officers to undertake footplate duties during heavy rains for real-time assessment and swift mitigation.

Shri Srivastava reiterated that any deficiencies observed during inspections must be addressed with urgency to uphold seamless train movement and passenger safety. He also advised the officers and supervisors to focus on enhancement of safety protocols in freight operations and prevention of cattle run-over incidents. Further, recognizing the risk posed by overgrown vegetation, the GM directed teams to cut, trim, or notch treesnear tracks and Overhead Equipment (OHE) to prevent operational hazards. He emphasized that field supervisors must remain vigilant, ensuring that any issue is addressed and resolved immediately.

Shri Sanjay Kumar Srivastava reiterated SCR’s commitment to safety and operational excellence, stating:“Monsoon preparedness is not just a seasonal protocol—it’s a reflection of our proactive approach to passenger safety and infrastructure resilience. Every supervisor, every team member must act with urgency and precision.”
