Tilak Varma Smashes Unbeaten 136 Off 56 Balls in TG20
Hyderabad: Just 24 hours after leading India ‘A’ to a Tri-Nation Series title in Dambulla, Sri Lanka, India’s T20I vice-captain Tilak Varma delivered a masterclass in power-hitting. Donning the colors of the Medak Falcons, Varma smashed a breathtaking, unbeaten 136 off just 56 balls to pull off a record-shattering three-wicket victory over the Warangal Warriors in the Sreenidhi University TG20 league at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium.
Batting first, the Warangal Warriors set what looked like an untouchable target of 258/7. Their captain and Rajasthan Royals recruit, Aman Rao Perala, lit up the stadium by scoring the tournament’s first century in just 32 balls. Perala finished with a staggering 142 off 48 deliveries, clobbering 12 boundaries and 13 massive sixes. Backed by a brisk 32 from Murugan Abhishek, the Warriors looked firmly in control at the innings break.
Faced with a daunting required run rate, the Medak Falcons launched an aggressive counter-attack. Pacing the chase to perfection, Varma brought up his half-century in just 22 balls, pushing the Falcons past the 100-run mark within the first eight overs.
The match swung into a tense phase when the Falcons slumped to 190/6 in the 15th over, requiring 65 runs from the final 30 balls. Varma changed gears seamlessly, reaching a spectacular 42-ball century. Partnering with Vikram Naik (27 off 12 balls), Varma anchored a crucial 58-run stand.
Despite Naik falling in the penultimate over, Varma stood tall—smashing 14 fours and 8 sixes in total—to guide his team past the finish line with two balls to spare.
