BSP Chief vows to go it alone in UP elections next year, celebrates 70th birthday with workers

Lucknow, Jan 15: Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati, on her 70th birthday, announced that her party will contest the 2027 UP elections with full force and energy without alliances. She also appealed to the Brahmins and other communities to support BSP in the elections to get back their honour and respect.
Addressing a press conference on Thursday at party headquarters, she said that her party is fully prepared to contest the 2027 assembly elections at every level, and if there is no rigging or malpractice in the EVMs, the results will be better and in BSP’s favour.
Talking about alliances, BSP supremo said that her party’s experience with alliances in the past hasn’t been good. While the partners benefited because of the transfer of Dalit votes, the votes of alliance partners didn’t transfer to BSP kitty in the same fashion, harming the party’s prospects.
She said that her party has decided it is better to contest the Uttar Pradesh assembly and Lok Sabha elections alone, and not to contest any election in alliance with any other party.
“There should be no misunderstanding that the BSP will contest the elections alone in Uttar Pradesh this time,” she added.
She elaborated, “In the future, when our party is confident that casteist parties seeking an alliance can abandon their casteist mindset and transfer upper-caste votes to our party, then a positive decision can be made. This will take years. Changing the casteist mindset will take time. Until casteist parties do this, we will not be able to consider an alliance.”
Although an unexpected spark and smoke due to a suspected short circuit interrupted the press conference at the party headquarters towards the end, the security personnel escorted the leader to safety and doused the smoke using the fire extinguishers.
