Rahul Gandhi reaches Indore, to meet families of water contamination tragedy

New Delhi, Jan 17: Congress MP and Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi reached Indore to meet the victims of the water contamination tragedy in the city on Saturday.
Gandhi will meet the residents of Bhagirathpura area the highly affected zone where nearly 20 people have died due to consumption of contaminated water. He will also meet the families affected by the drinking water tragedy to express his solidarity.
The Congress MP will interact with elected representatives of Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) to discuss the water contamination and the current situation of the situation. The meeting with victims families will take place from 12:45 PM to 1:45 PM, after which Rahul Gandhi will address the media.
A protest had been organised by the Madhya Pradesh Congress to emphasise on the vulnerable conditions leading to this tragedy. PCC chief Jitu Patwari and LoP in the State Assembly Umang Singhar will join the protest along with others.
The diarrhoea outbreak in Bhagirathpura, a lower middle-class neighbourhood, came to light on the last week of December 2025. More than 3,000 people have been impacted by the severe water contamination. The water supplied in the area has been confirmed to be carrying a polymicrobial contamination, suspected to be the result of leakages in the decades-old water and sewage pipelines running close to each other in the area.
