HYDERABAD: Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) Working President KT Rama Rao launched a scathing attack on Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s administration, accusing the Congress government of fostering an “Emergency-like atmosphere” and resorting to severe police highhandedness against opposition MLAs and MLCs at the Telangana Legislative Assembly premises.
Speaking to the media shortly after leading a high-level BRS delegation to Raj Bhavan, KTR revealed that party leaders submitted a detailed memorandum alongside video evidence to Governor Jishnu Dev Varma, demanding an immediate investigation and legal action against police personnel involved in the physically aggressive treatment of elected lawmakers.
The BRS delegation, which included senior figures such as BRSLP Deputy Leader T. Harish Rao, former minister Sabitha Indra Reddy, and Legislative Council Opposition Leader Sirikonda Madhusudana Chari, highlighted severe misconduct by security forces at the Assembly gates.
KTR expressed intense outrage over the alleged manhandling of opposition members—particularly women legislators—claiming that senior women leaders had their sarees pulled and were physically grabbed by police constables operating under direct instructions from the Chief Minister, who holds the Home portfolio. Several key legislators, including former ministers and KTR himself, sustained injuries or were forcibly dragged and bundled into police vehicles during the protest against unfulfilled electoral promises.
Addressing reporters, KTR sharply criticized the government for imposing arbitrary restrictions, questioning why BRS legislators were physically blocked and suspended for wearing black protest T-shirts when Congress leaders frequently employ similar demonstrations in Parliament. He accused the ruling party of attempting to stifle opposition voices, orchestrating highhanded police tactics, and executing mass suspensions of BRS legislators to divert public attention from pressing governance issues and failures.
Stating that the Governor promised to raise the issue with the Director General of Police and the Chief Secretary, KTR affirmed that the BRS would not be intimidated and promised to take the matter to the High Court, the National Human Rights Commission, and the Women’s Commission if justice is delayed.
