Minister Sridhar Babu Outlines Strategy to Revive Regional IT Hubs and Launch New GCC Policy

HYDERABAD: Information Technology and Industries Minister Duddilla Sridhar Babu informed the Legislative Assembly today, September 11, that the state government is executing a comprehensive strategy to revive underutilized IT hubs in Tier-2 and Tier-3 towns while finalizing a dedicated policy for Global Capability Centres (GCCs). Responding to questions regarding regional tech infrastructure—specifically the Nizamabad IT Hub—the minister explained that earlier facilities fell into disuse due to the absence of committed anchor or industry partners prior to construction. To rectify these structural gaps, the government has conducted field-level inspections across district facilities and is actively onboarding major tech firms, including TCS, Infosys, Cognizant, and Wipro, to establish operations and generate localized employment for regional youth.

Addressing the broader geographic distribution of technology infrastructure, Sridhar Babu stated that expanding IT operations beyond Hyderabad to centers like Nalgonda, Adilabad, Mahabubnagar, Karimnagar, and Nizamabad remains a central government priority to relieve urban congestion. He confirmed that the IT Hub and Tower in Adilabad will be formally inaugurated soon and emphasized that the state stands ready to co-develop new regional towers wherever viable industry partners step forward. Alongside physical expansion, the government is focusing on creating a robust supportive ecosystem, which includes building out regional data center infrastructure and arranging dedicated power allocations so local energy needs are not compromised.

The minister also highlighted the rapid growth of GCCs in the state, revealing that over 75 global centers have set up base in Hyderabad over the past two years, generating significant high-value employment. To sustain this momentum and establish a standardized framework for global enterprise investments, Sridhar Babu announced that the state is in the final stages of drafting a new, comprehensive GCC Policy. He reassured the House that the upcoming policy, paired with strategic infrastructure upgrades across districts, will position Telangana as a future-ready technology hub capable of supporting next-generation jobs and long-term economic growth.
