Amaravati, Feb 18: The Andhra Pradesh High Court today rejected a petition filed by veteran actor Mohan Babu and his MBU (Mohan Babu University) in connection with an alleged kidnapping case. The court’s decision paves the way for the continuation of legal proceedings against the petitioners in a case that has garnered significant public attention.
The case stems from a complaint filed by a former employee of MBU, who accused Mohan Babu and others associated with the university of kidnapping and wrongful confinement. The details of the alleged incident have not been fully disclosed in public records, but sources suggest it involves a dispute over financial matters or employment terms.
Mohan Babu and MBU University had approached the High Court seeking to quash the First Information Report (FIR) registered against them, arguing that the allegations were baseless and a result of malicious intent. Their legal team contended that the charges were an attempt to defame the actor and disrupt the functioning of the educational institution.
However, after reviewing the arguments presented by both sides and examining the evidence submitted, the High Court bench ruled against the petitioners. The court observed that there was sufficient prima facie evidence to allow the investigation to proceed, and it found no grounds to interfere with the ongoing legal process at this stage.
This ruling marks a significant development in the case, indicating that the legal scrutiny on Mohan Babu and MBU University will intensify. The dismissal of the petition means that the police investigation will continue, and the accused will likely face further questioning and potential charges depending on the outcome of the probe.
Mohan Babu, a prominent figure in the Telugu film industry and a respected educationist, has maintained his innocence throughout the proceedings. Representatives for MBU University also reiterated their commitment to cooperating with the authorities and proving their non-involvement in any illegal activities.
The former employee who filed the complaint has expressed satisfaction with the High Court’s decision, viewing it as a step towards justice.
Legal experts suggest that the case could now move to the stage of charge-sheeting, followed by a trial if the police gather enough evidence. The incident has once again highlighted the complexities and challenges faced by public figures when entangled in legal disputes.
