AP High Court Gets New Chief Justice

Published on

New Delhi, Feb 27: The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended new appointments to head two major High Courts. For the Andhra Pradesh High Court, Justice Lisa Gill, presently serving as a judge of the Chandigarh High Court, has been proposed as the new Chief Justice. Justice Sushrut Arvind Dharmadhikari has been named the next Chief Justice of the Madras High Court, set to take charge following the retirement of the current incumbent in early March.

The Collegium, led by the Chief Justice of India, also introduced a new transfer policy to ensure smoother transitions. Under this system, judges designated to become Chief Justices will be moved to their respective High Courts well before vacancies arise. This approach is intended to strengthen judicial administration and minimize disruptions caused by leadership changes.

These appointments mark a significant step in reinforcing the efficiency and continuity of India’s judicial system, while also reflecting the Collegium’s proactive stance in managing High Court leadership.
