Hyderabad, Feb 5: Upcoming actor Chandrahas, frequently referred to by the self-proclaimed moniker “Attitude Star,” has sparked a massive wave of outrage across the Telugu film industry following a controversial performance at the pre-release event for his latest film, Barabar Premistha. The event, held recently at a hotel in Jubilee Hills, took an uncomfortable turn when the young actor performed a song titled “Gunji Gunji,” which reportedly contained vulgar lyrics and “unparliamentary” language. The performance has drawn sharp criticism not only from social media users but also from seasoned industry veterans who were present at the event.
The controversy deepened when veteran actor JD Chakravarthy, a guest at the event, expressed his profound disappointment during a subsequent media interaction. Chakravarthy admitted to feeling “shocked and confused” by the display, stating that he regretted not walking out of the venue immediately. He emphasized that the use of offensive language for the sake of “negative publicity” was a new low for film marketing and urged young filmmakers to rely on creativity rather than vulgarity to attract audiences. Despite the backlash, Chandrahas remained defiant, releasing a video statement where he refused to apologize, claiming that critics were only highlighting a few seconds of a much longer song and that such language is “common” in modern cinema.
The situation has now escalated into a legal matter. A criminal case was registered against Chandrahas at the Madhapur Police Station following a complaint by senior journalist Ashok Kumar Vemulapalli. The journalist had initially posted a video questioning the actor’s conduct and the message such performances send to society. In response, Chandrahas allegedly posted a video on his Instagram account containing threatening remarks directed at the journalist. Police are currently investigating the matter, while netizens and industry insiders continue to debate the growing trend of using controversy as a promotional tool in Tollywood.
