BNP Secures Majority in Bangladesh Elections, Tarique Rahman Set to Form Government

Dhaka, Feb 13: In the Bangladesh parliamentary elections, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has claimed victory. Out of the 299 parliamentary seats contested, the party along with its allies announced that they won 212 seats. With this majority, BNP leader Tarique Rahman is preparing to form the government.

The Jamaat-e-Islami party secured 70 seats, while other parties and independents won the remaining constituencies. The vote-counting process is still ongoing, and the official announcement of results is yet to be made. However, BNP has already crossed the majority mark required to form the government.

Tarique Rahman contested from Dhaka-17 and Bogra-6 constituencies, winning both. It is also noted that Rahman’s mother, Khaleda, passed away just days before the elections. In light of this, Rahman requested party workers to postpone victory celebrations and instead hold only simple prayers.
