Hyderabad, March 17: The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) on Tuesday issued a show-cause notice to former MLA Pilot Rohith Reddy in connection with a sensational drugs case that has triggered political controversy in Telangana.
The action follows allegations that Rohith Reddy was involved in a drug party held at his farmhouse in Moinabad on the outskirts of Hyderabad. According to party sources, the notice was issued on the directions of BRS president K. Chandrashekhar Rao, seeking a detailed explanation from the former legislator within seven days.
In the notice, the party expressed serious concern over media reports linking Rohith Reddy to alleged narcotics consumption, stating that such developments had damaged the party’s image and credibility. The BRS reiterated its commitment to legal and ethical standards, making it clear that it does not tolerate any association with illegal activities, including drug use.
The party has also barred Rohith Reddy from participating in any official programmes or activities until further notice. It warned that failure to submit a satisfactory explanation within the stipulated time would invite strict disciplinary action as per party rules.
The controversy stems from a police raid conducted on March 14 at a farmhouse in Moinabad, where several individuals, including political figures, were detained. Authorities reportedly seized narcotic substances, and multiple attendees, including Rohith Reddy, allegedly tested positive for drug use.
The incident has sparked a political storm in the state, with opposition parties targeting the BRS over the alleged involvement of its leaders in the case. Meanwhile, the police investigation is ongoing to determine the extent of the network and those involved.
Rohith Reddy has not yet issued a public response to the notice. His reply, expected within a week, is likely to determine the next course of action by the party as well as his political future.
