New delhi, Jan 17: Owing to dense fog throughout national capital several flights have been reportedly delayed at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport on Saturday morning.
It has been advised to the passengers to check flight status with the airlines as dense fog is likely to affect the boarding status of the respective flight.
According to the Indian Meteorological department (IMD) Palam’s visibility improved to 500m visibility in shallow fog at 9pm where as Safdarjung’s visibility further drops to 0200m in moderate fog with calm winds in same time.
Bad weather impacts flight operations largely.
A Indigo airline bound to Chandigarh from Indira Gandhi international Airport (IGI) has been cancelled on Saturday early morning.
An Indigo post at X handle reads, “Low visibility and fog over Lucknow may impact flight schedules. We are closely monitoring the weather and doing our best to get you where you need to be, safely and smoothly. We request that you stay updated on your flight status via our website or app. Please be assured that our teams are here to assist you at every step and provide full support.”
Official numbers of the flight delayed is still expected by the authority.
According to DGCA norms pilots are specially trained for instrument landings (ILS) in conditions as low as 75-200m RVR, ensuring safety during fog/mist periods by adhering to defined protocols for deviations, diversions, and passenger facilitation, all managed through a coordinated effort involving ATC, airlines, and the regulator.
