London: It appears that the International Cricket Council (ICC) has taken a serious view of recent comments made by Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Mohsin Naqvi. According to a report in an English daily, if Pakistan follows in Bangladesh’s footsteps and withdraws from the T20 World Cup, the ICC is prepared to impose severe sanctions on the country’s cricket.
ICC sources revealed that these measures could include suspending all bilateral series. Denying No Objection Certificates (NOCs) to foreign players participating in the Pakistan Super League (PSL). Expelling Pakistan from the Asia Cup.
Naqvi’s Allegations of Injustice
Recently, Naqvi commented that the ICC had treated Bangladesh unfairly. “Bangladesh is a key stakeholder in the ICC. They have been treated unjustly. I stated this during Wednesday’s ICC meeting as well. There are many reasons behind the decision not to send the Bangladesh team to India. Here, one country (referring to India) is dictating everything. When the ICC shifted venues for India and Pakistan in the past, why can’t they do the same for Bangladesh?” Naqvi questioned.
Furthermore, he stated that he would ask his government to take a final call regarding participation in the T20 World Cup. This has sparked widespread speculation that Pakistan might also withdraw from the tournament.
