Kerala cabinet approves social security scheme for women in religious institutions

Thiruvananthapuram, Jan 29: The Kerala Cabinet has approved a special scheme to remove hurdles in extending social security benefits to eligible women, including nuns, residing in institutions managed by religious bodies.
Women living in temples, monasteries, convents, ashrams, and other religious institutions will be brought under the State’s social security pension schemes by relaxing existing conditions.
Unmarried women above 50 years of age who do not receive a salary, pension, or other government benefits will be treated as a special category. For them, mandatory documents such as income and unmarried certificates, required under the March 31, 2001, government order, will be waived.
The Cabinet also approved a special application form to facilitate the grant of pension benefits to these beneficiaries.
