New Delhi, Jan 24: Intelligence officials have successfully foiled a terror plot ahead of Republic Day. Acting on intelligence reports regarding plans for terror attacks across the country on January 26, intelligence agencies and police conducted search operations and apprehended a gang belonging to the Khalistani organization, Babbar Khalsa International (BKI), in Punjab. Five terrorists were arrested, and 2.5 kg of RDX along with a large cache of weapons were seized from them. Officials stated that the group had conspired to carry out attacks during the Republic Day celebrations.
The arrested suspects have been identified as Sharanpreet Singh, Diljot Singh Saini, Harman, Ajay, and Arshdeep Singh. Officials revealed that this terror module was being operated by U.S.-based Babbar Khalsa handlers. Preliminary investigations confirmed that the suspects had drafted plans for attacks in various locations based on the handlers’ instructions.
Authorities added that since terror groups are planning further attacks in several parts of the country, search operations have been intensified in major cities, including the national capital, Delhi. In light of last year’s terror attack near the Red Fort, security measures are being significantly tightened for the upcoming Republic Day.
