Midnight Crash on Mahabubnagar Bypass Claims 5 Lives
Mahabubnagar: In a tragic and devastating road accident, five people—including an 18-month-old toddler and an 8-year-old child—were killed when a speeding sports bike rammed into a hatchback car near the Palakonda crossroads on the Mahabubnagar bypass road late Sunday night.
The collision occurred past midnight when a family, returning home after attending a wedding ceremony, was attempting to negotiate a U-turn at the Palakonda junction. At the same moment, a high-end sports bike traveling from the direction of Hyderabad crashed directly into the turning car at extreme speed.
The impact of the collision was so severe that it triggered immediate panic among residents in the vicinity. The rear half of the car was completely mangled under the force of the crash, and debris from both vehicles was scattered across the highway.
According to the local police, five individuals died from severe injuries sustained during the crash, while another passenger remains in critical condition.
The deceased have been identified as Gousia (30), her 8-year-old child Huzaifa (also reported as Ujesha), and her 18-month-old toddler, Ameer. They were residents of the New Prem Nagar area in Mahabubnagar. Another woman traveling in the car sustained life-threatening injuries and is currently fighting for her life in a local government hospital.
The rider, identified as 25-year-old Yakub Afzal from Hyderabad, along with another unidentified male co-rider on the sports motorcycle, died on the spot.
Local eyewitnesses reported that the sports motorcycle was traveling at an exceptionally high speed—estimated to be well over 100 km/h, with some estimating it closer to 140 km/h—when the rider failed to slow down as the car took the U-turn.
The fatal accident has sparked intense anger among local residents. Community members protesting near the site pointed out that the Mahabubnagar bypass road has increasingly become a dangerous hotspot for late-night bike racing. Locals claim that riders, mostly originating from Hyderabad, routinely use the smooth, open stretches of the bypass for high-speed stunts and racing, posing a constant, deadly threat to local commuters.
Upon receiving the information, emergency responders and patrolling police teams rushed to the scene to carry out rescue operations. The bodies of the deceased were shifted to the Mahabubnagar Government General Hospital for post-mortem examinations.
The Mahabubnagar police have registered a formal case and initiated a thorough investigation. “We are checking CCTV footage along the stretch to establish the exact sequence of events and investigate the allegations regarding illegal bike racing on the bypass road,” a senior police official stated.
