New Delhi, Feb 1: Light rain lashed parts of the national capital late Saturday night, ushering in cooler conditions, while Sunday is expected to remain cloudy with the possibility of further showers, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
The IMD said weather activity across northwest India is being driven by two Western Disturbances in quick succession, with a third system likely to impact the Western Himalayan region between February 5 and 7, 2026.
“Light to moderate scattered to fairly widespread rainfall and snowfall is likely over the Western Himalayan region, while isolated to scattered rainfall is expected over adjoining plains of northwest and central India during February 1 to 3,” the IMD said.
Night temperatures across northwest India are likely to rise by 3-5°C over the next 24 hours, while daytime temperatures may dip by 2-4°C, adding to the winter chill.
Scattered to fairly widespread rain and snowfall, accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds reaching 30–40 kmph (gusting up to 50 kmph), are likely over Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad and Himachal Pradesh on February 1, and over Uttarakhand on February 1 and 2.
Isolated to scattered light rainfall with thunderstorms and gusty winds is expected over Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh on February 1, and over Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh from February 1 to 3. East Rajasthan may see similar conditions from January 31 to February 2.
The IMD has also warned of isolated hailstorm activity over East Rajasthan on January 31 and February 1, and over West Madhya Pradesh on February 1.
Dense fog is likely during morning and night hours in isolated pockets over Bihar, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, and Sikkim till February 1. Cold day conditions may prevail in isolated areas of West Uttar Pradesh on January 31, and East Uttar Pradesh on January 31 and February 1.
Residents in Delhi and adjoining regions have been advised to stay alert, as fluctuating temperatures and intermittent rain are expected to bring a renewed chill over the coming days.
