PM Modi urges citizens to strengthen democracy, lauds Election Commission’s role

‎‎New Delhi, Jan 25: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday called upon citizens to actively participate in democratic processes, underlining that democracy thrives not just on institutions but on the conscious involvement of voters.
His remarks came as he emphasised the importance of faith in India’s democratic values and the responsibility that comes with the right to vote.
‎In a message posted on platform X, the Prime Minister said the day serves as a reminder of India’s democratic ethos. “This day is about further deepening our faith in the democratic values of our nation,” he said.
‎Prime Minister Modi also praised the Election Commission of India (ECI) for its role in safeguarding and strengthening the country’s electoral system.
“My compliments to all those associated with the Election Commission of India for their efforts to strengthen our democratic processes,” he noted, acknowledging the institution’s contribution to free, fair, and transparent elections.
‎Highlighting the significance of voter participation, the Prime Minister stressed that voting goes beyond being a legal entitlement. “Being a voter is not just a constitutional privilege, but an important duty that gives every citizen a voice in shaping India’s future,” he said.
‎He further urged people to uphold democratic values by consistently engaging in elections and other democratic exercises. “Let us honour the spirit of our democracy by always taking part in democratic processes, thereby strengthening the foundations of a Viksit Bharat,” PM Modi added.
‎India, the world’s largest democracy, conducts elections at multiple levels, from local bodies to Parliament, with the Election Commission playing a central role in ensuring credibility and public trust. The Prime Minister’s message reiterates the government’s emphasis on citizen participation as a cornerstone of democratic governance and national development.
