Dibrugarh, Feb 14: A historic event unfolded today in Assam as Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s aircraft (C-130J) landed on the newly constructed Emergency Landing Facility (ELF) — the first such facility in Northeast India. Located about 300 km from the China border, this ELF was formally inaugurated by the Prime Minister.
On the occasion, the Indian Air Force performed special aerial displays. Modi had earlier posted on X highlighting the importance of this facility, noting that it would be crucial for rescue operations and emergency responses during critical situations.
In case operations cannot be carried out at Dibrugarh Airport or Chabua Air Force Station during emergencies, this ELF will serve as an alternative. Designed to support both take-off and landing, it enables rapid response by the Indian Air Force in border areas during times of tension.
Similar facilities already exist in Western, Northern, and Central India. Establishing one in the Northeast has gained special significance given the ongoing border disputes with China.
