Kozhikode, Jan 30: V. Srinivasan, the husband of legendary Indian athlete and current President of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA), PT Usha, passed away in the early hours of Friday, January 30, 2026. He was 67.
According to family sources, Srinivasan collapsed unexpectedly at the couple’s residence in Payyoli, Kozhikode, around 1:00 AM. Although he was immediately rushed to a nearby private hospital, he was declared brought dead. PT Usha, who also serves as a Rajya Sabha MP, was in New Delhi attending the ongoing Parliamentary session at the time of the incident and is reportedly rushing back to Kerala.
A former central government employee and a retired Deputy SP with the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), Srinivasan was widely recognized as the silent force behind PT Usha’s illustrious career. The couple tied the knot in 1991. Throughout her transition from a world-class sprinter to a sports administrator and politician, Srinivasan remained her most steadfast pillar of support. He is survived by PT Usha and their son, Dr. Ujjwal Vignesh.
The news of his sudden demise has sent shockwaves through the sporting and political communities. Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to PT Usha over the phone this morning to express his deep condolences, acknowledging Srinivasan’s role in supporting one of India’s greatest sporting icons.
“Deeply saddened to learn about the passing away of Shri V. Srinivasan ji. My heartfelt condolences to Usha ji and the bereaved family. Prayers for strength in this difficult time,” wrote Kiren Rijiju, Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, in a tribute on social media.
The funeral arrangements are expected to be announced once PT Usha reaches Kozhikode later today.
