Hyderabad: In a significant top-level reshuffle within the Income Tax Department, senior IRS officer Suresh Bathini has been appointed as the Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax (Pr. CCIT) for the Andhra Pradesh and Telangana region.

The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) issued the official orders for his appointment today, April 9, 2026. Mr. Bathini succeeds Morampudi Anil Kumar, who had been serving in the position since July 2025.

The appointment marks a continuation of Telugu leadership at the helm of the regional tax authority. Mr. Bathini, an officer of high standing, previously served as the Chief Commissioner of Income Tax (CCIT) in the Hyderabad region, where he earned a reputation for administrative efficiency and taxpayer-centric initiatives.

His predecessor, Mr. Anil Kumar, is also a Telugu officer who has now completed his tenure in the regional top spot. The transition is expected to be seamless, given Mr. Bathini’s deep familiarity with the economic landscape and tax administration challenges of both Telugu states.
