Tirumala, Feb 26: A tragic accident occurred today on the down ghat road near the 30th curve, one of the most dangerous bends on the Tirumala hills. A speeding motorcycle lost control and skidded, throwing both riders onto the road.
Police confirmed that one pilgrim, identified as Natarajan from Mittapettai village in Arakkonam taluka, Tamil Nadu, died on the spot due to the severity of the crash. His companion, Muniratnam, sustained serious injuries and was rushed to Tirupati’s SVIMS hospital for treatment.
Authorities reported that the duo had visited Tirumala for darshan and were returning when the accident occurred. The bike, traveling at high speed, collided with a roadside barrier before the riders were flung off.
Police have registered a case and are investigating the incident. The accident highlights ongoing concerns about safety on the steep and winding Tirumala ghat roads, where sharp curves and speeding vehicles often lead to mishaps
