Vijayawada, Jan 15: As a Sankranti gift to the public, officials have made the Vijayawada West Bypass operational. Authorities have opened one side of the highway, stretching from Kaja in Guntur district (Mangalagiri Mandal) to Peda Avutapalli in Krishna district, allowing vehicles to pass. NHAI officials inaugurated the route following traditional prayers. Initially, NHAI official vehicles were allowed through, followed by public traffic. Officials stated that the second side of the road will be completed and opened by March.
Route Details for Commuters:
- From Guntur/Chennai: Vehicles coming from Guntur or Chennai can enter the West Bypass after crossing the Kaja toll gate. They can travel via Gollapudi to Chinna Avutapalli and merge onto the Eluru highway.
- To Hyderabad: Vehicles coming from Guntur can use this bypass to reach the Vijayawada-Hyderabad highway at Gollapudi to head toward Hyderabad.
- City Traffic Relief: With this bypass, vehicles traveling from Guntur toward Eluru or Hyderabad no longer need to enter Vijayawada city, significantly reducing urban traffic congestion.
Current Restrictions:
NHAI officials clarified that vehicles coming from Gollapudi cannot yet travel all the way to Kaja due to ongoing construction at certain points. Currently, these vehicles must continue using the existing route: crossing the Krishna River bridge and Seed Access Road, then entering the Mangalagiri-Mandadam road to head toward the Secretariat and High Court.
Toll Information: Officials mentioned that toll collection at Venkatapalem will only commence once the entire highway project is fully operational.
