ACB Unearths Rs. 1.10 Crore Cash, 1.5 kg Gold in Raids at HMWS&SB General Manager’s House

Hyderabad: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) of Telangana on Tuesday, launched simultaneous raids targeting S.L. Kumar, General Manager of the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB). The extensive anti-corruption crackdown was initiated after the bureau booked a formal case of accumulating disproportionate assets against the senior official.

According to preliminary administrative briefings, the investigative teams uncovered a staggering Rs. 1.10 Crore stash of liquid cash and 1.5 kg gold ornaments, 3.5 kg silver, documents related to 3 plots, 6 flats and other unaccounted assets that grossly outstripped the official’s known, legitimate sources of income.

The operation began early Tuesday morning as dedicated sleuths from the ACB simultaneously descended upon eight distinct locations across the state, including the properties of Kumar and several close relatives. A primary focal point of the raid was the General Manager’s residential property located in the Mallapur neighborhood of Hyderabad, alongside inspections at his premises in Red Hills.

As investigators breached the target locations, they discovered currency notes on a large scale concealed within the premises. The sheer volume of the seized cash bundles forced the anti-corruption teams to request emergency logistical support, bringing in dedicated currency counting machines to calculate the physical cash haul on-site.

Apart from the large reserves of ready cash, investigators are actively auditing extensive paperwork related to fixed deposits, real estate holdings, gold ornaments, and high-value investment portfolios suspected of being registered under benami names.

The massive operation against the Jalamandali official aligns with an intensified state-wide offensive by the anti-corruption agency to clean up high-yield public departments. According to internal data from the ACB’s annual assessments, enforcement wings have sharply scaled up structural surveillance around state utilities, civic infrastructure boards, and land administration offices, where public interfaces create higher vulnerabilities for illegal transactions.

The agency noted that formal assessment filings regarding the exact net worth of the seized properties and liquid cash will be processed as the documentation concludes.

The HMWS&SB General Manager remains under intensive investigation as officials continue to map out the financial trails. ACB representatives have indicated that Kumar will face formal arrest and will be produced before the Special Court for ACB Cases in Nampally once the preliminary inventory of the disproportionate assets is legally compiled.
