Afghanistan, Jan 30: Afghanistan’s first-ever specialized cancer center has opened in Kabul, the Afghan Ministry of Public Health said.
“The new medical facility, officially named the National Cancer Diagnosis and Treatment Hospital, has already begun operations and will provide diagnostic and specialized care to cancer patients throughout the country,” the ministry said in a statement on Thursday.
At the cancer center’s opening ceremony, Afghan Minister of Public Health Noor Jalal Jalali announced plans to launch specialized training programs to prepare medical specialists.
Jalali emphasized the importance of international cooperation in this project, mentioning that “with India’s support, the hospital will introduce radiation therapy services.”
India has already provided targeted assistance of $1 million to the Afghan Ministry of Health, including 10 tonnes of medicines and medical equipment, to support cancer treatment in Afghanistan, the statement noted.
