Tirumala, March 6: Following a series of high-profile legal victories and her recent transition away from the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), Telangana Jagruthi President Kalvakuntla Kavitha offered prayers at the Lord Venkateswara Temple in Tirumala today. Speaking to the press after her darshan, she expressed deep gratitude for what she described as the “triumph of truth” and unveiled an ambitious roadmap for a new political era in Telangana.
Kavitha arrived at the hill shrine after trekking the Alipiri foot-path on foot, a journey she described as the fulfillment of a personal vow. The visit comes shortly after a Delhi court granted her a “clean chit” in the excise policy case, which had seen her spend nearly six months in Tihar Jail. Addressing the media, she stated that her family had endured immense mental agony over allegations she did not commit, asserting that by the grace of Lord Venkateswara and the integrity of the judiciary, her innocence has been validated. In a move that surprised many, she also raised the slogan “Jai Andhra,” emphasizing a message of harmony between the two Telugu states and thanking her well-wishers in Andhra Pradesh for their support during her legal battles.
Confirming months of speculation, Kavitha officially announced that she would launch a new political party within the next two months. The party will be established under the aegis of her organization, Telangana Jagruthi, and will operate under the banner of “Telangana First.” Her primary objectives include focusing on grassroots governance, addressing public grievances at the micro-level, and fighting for the underprivileged against initiatives she characterized as “wealth-favoring.” She also stressed the importance of regional harmony and mutual prosperity for both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.
This future course of action marks a definitive split from her father’s party, the BRS. Kavitha was sharp in her criticism, alleging that the BRS had failed as an effective opposition and had neglected original Telangana activists. She stated that her struggle continues as an independent voice for the people, rather than a member of an established political hierarchy. Kavitha is expected to return to Hyderabad today to begin consultations with senior leaders and Telangana Jagruthi members to finalize the party’s structure and manifesto ahead of the upcoming municipal elections.
