Dhaka, Feb 15: Tarique Rahman, Chairman of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), who won the recent Bangladesh elections, is preparing to take oath as the new Prime Minister on February 17. Reports indicate that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been invited to attend the ceremony.
The swearing-in will be held at the Southern Plaza of the Bangladesh Parliament House. The interim government led by Yunus has extended invitations to leaders from 13 countries, including China, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Turkey, Qatar, Sri Lanka, Nepal, and India.
Relations between India and Bangladesh have recently faced strain, making this invitation a significant development. However, it is not yet clear whether PM Modi will attend, as India has not officially confirmed its participation.
Following the BNP’s victory, PM Modi congratulated Tarique Rahman over the phone, and the BNP expressed gratitude. In his first address after the win, Rahman assured that Bangladesh will prioritize its national interests while maintaining constructive ties with India.
