Chennai: On the auspicious occasion of Tamil New Year, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) officially released its election manifesto for the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections today, April 14, 2026. The document, titled as a blueprint for a “New Tamil Nadu,” was unveiled by Union Minister J.P. Nadda at the party headquarters, “Kamalalayam,” in the presence of State President Nainar Nagenthran and other senior leaders.
The manifesto places a heavy emphasis on “Nari Shakti” (Women Power), promising a monthly financial assistance of ₹2,000 for all women heads of households. In a bid to address the cost of living, the party also pledged three free LPG cylinders annually—to be distributed during the festivals of Pongal, Deepavali, and the Tamil New Year. Additionally, the BJP has proposed a one-time assistance of ₹10,000 for every household in the state upon the alliance coming to power.
For the farming community, the manifesto introduces the “Uzhave Thai” scheme, which offers a ₹3,000 annual top-up to the existing Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi, bringing total central and state support to ₹9,000 per farmer. Cultural promises also featured prominently, with the party committing to declare “Thaipoosam” as a state festival and ensuring the protection of traditional religious practices, such as the lighting of the Karthigai Deepam at the Thiruparankundram hilltop.
Addressing law and order, the BJP promised a “zero-tolerance” policy toward crimes against women and drugs. The manifesto outlines the creation of a dedicated Tamil Nadu Drug Eradication Department and the implementation of 100% CCTV coverage in public transport and educational institutions. During the launch, J.P. Nadda criticized the ruling DMK administration, accusing it of failing the state’s youth and farmers, while positioning the BJP-AIADMK alliance as the only force capable of delivering “double-engine growth.”
Tamil Nadu is set to go to the polls in a single phase on April 23, 2026, with the results scheduled to be announced on May 4.
