Delhi-Bound IndiGo Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Goa

NEW DELHI: A Delhi-bound IndiGo flight carrying 229 passengers was forced to make an emergency landing at Manohar International Airport in Mopa, North Goa, on Tuesday morning after experiencing a mid-air engine failure shortly after takeoff.

IndiGo flight 6E 2102 departed from Goa at 9:16 AM, but while ascending to roughly 14,000 feet over the coast of southern Maharashtra, the crew detected a technical snag in one of the engines. Following the pilot’s alert, Air Traffic Control (ATC) declared a full emergency around 9:30 AM to prepare ground rescue crews.

The pilots executed a turnaround and landed the aircraft safely on Runway 28 at 9:51 AM. All 229 passengers and crew disembarked safely at Stand 6 without any reported injuries, allowing ATC to officially call off the full emergency by 10:03 AM.

An IndiGo spokesperson confirmed that standard operating procedures were strictly followed and noted that the aircraft has been grounded for thorough technical checks and maintenance. In the interim, the airline provided terminal refreshments and arranged a replacement flight to transport the stranded passengers to Delhi later in the afternoon. Teams from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) are inspecting the aircraft to determine the precise cause of the engine failure.
