
Hyderabad: The invaluable services rendered by Dr. G. Rameshwar Rao to the Engineering Staff College of India (ESCI) will remain etched in the institution’s history for years to come, observed several eminent speakers at his farewell function held on 30 June 2026 at the ESCI Convention Centre, Hyderabad.
Addressing the gathering, Major General Mohan Jeet Singh Syali, Secretary and Director General of the Institution of Engineers (India), remarked that the saying, “With dedication and hard work, ordinary people become extraordinary,” aptly describes Dr. Rameshwar Rao. He said that everyone had personally witnessed his relentless efforts in transforming ESCI into a vibrant and progressive institution, and the remarkable results of his leadership are clearly visible today. Referring to Dr. Rameshwar Rao’s tenure as Director of ESCI since 20 August 2020, he described him as an optimistic leader who approached every task with enthusiasm and determination. His career, he said, stands as a testimony to the fact that perseverance and commitment inevitably lead to success.
Speaking on the occasion, Seniror Engineer Dr. P. Surya Prakash recalled that when Dr. Rameshwar Raoassumed charge as Director six years ago, he carefully identified several shortcomings within the institution and systematically addressed them one after another. He praised his visionary leadership in introducing Post Graduate Diploma programmes through the School of Post Graduate Studies, constructing the state-of-the-art ESCI Convention Centre, and initiating efforts to transform ESCI into a university. These achievements, he said, reflected Dr. Rameshwar Rao’s farsighted vision and commitment to institutional excellence.
Dr. Seeram Satyanarayana stated that during the period when he served as Chairman of the Institution of Engineers (India) and Dr. Rameshwar Rao served as Secretary, the reforms introduced by him left a lasting impression on the organisation. He added that the staff of the Institution continues to remember and appreciate his administrative initiatives.
M.B. Praveen Kumar observed that Dr. Rameshwar Rao possesses an exceptional ability to visualise innovative ideas wherever he goes. Whether during his tenure at the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board, the Institution of Engineers (India), or at ESCI, he has consistently left behind a distinct mark through his innovative thinking and developmental initiatives.
Shyam Prasad Reddy described Dr. RameshwarRao as a true taskmaster who remains fully committed to every assignment until its successful completion. Senior Engineer Jambul Reddy recalled his significant contribution during his service in the Water Works Department, particularly in implementing the gravity-based water supply system from Manjeera–Singur to Hyderabad, which helped the Government save hundreds of crores of rupees in project expenditure.
Dr. Ramana Naik stated that among the 28 State and Local Centres of the Institution of Engineers (India), the Hyderabad Centre stands out for its excellent infrastructure, well-maintained premises, and modern facilities, owing largely to Dr. RameshwarRao’s meticulous planning and dedicated efforts.
Representing the ESCI staff, V. Nageshwar Raosaid that Dr. Rameshwar Rao took charge as Director during the challenging COVID-19 pandemic and, over the past six years, elevated ESCI to a new level of excellence. He remarked that every development visible across the ESCI campus bears testimony to his vision and leadership, adding that the Convention Centre itself reflects his personality and commitment.
In his farewell address, Dr. G. Rameshwar Raosaid that throughout his tenure as Director, he worked tirelessly to enhance the stature and reputation of the Engineering Staff College of India. He noted that while India has several training institutions, ESCI holds a unique place because distinguished personalities like Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam had served as its faculty members. His constant endeavour, he said, was to restore and strengthen that legacy by positioning ESCI among the country’s premier institutions.
He further stated that regular reviews with officers, continuous improvements in systems, and strengthening organisational performance were made possible only through the wholehearted support and cooperation of the ESCI staff. Emphasising his guiding principle, “Work hard, achieve, and success will be yours,” he said that nothing is impossible when pursued with determination. Serving as Director of ESCI for six years, he added, has given him immense satisfaction and a profound sense of fulfilment.
Harpal Singh Grewal, who will assume charge as the next Director of ESCI, appreciated the numerous developmental initiatives undertaken by Dr. Rameshwar Rao for the institution. He expressed confidence that with the continued support of the ESCI staff, the institution would achieve even greater milestones in the years ahead.
Several distinguished personalities, including Rajasekhar Reddy, Sridhar Babu, NERADCO President Sridhar Reddy, and ESCI officials K.J. Amarnath, Dr. V.R. Sastri, S. Lakshmi Kantha Rao, G. Naga Malleswara Rao, Dr. P. Rajarao, Naresh, and others also addressed the gathering and paid rich tributes to Dr. Rameshwar Rao’s remarkable contributions.
On the occasion, Dr. G. Rameshwar Rao was felicitated with shawls and mementoes by colleagues, friends, senior engineers, officers, and members of the ESCI fraternity in recognition of his outstanding service and exemplary leadership.
