Mamata Banerjee’s Niece Dies by Suicide in Birbhum

Kolkata: In a tragic development, 28-year-old Bristy Mukherjee, the niece of Trinamool Congress (TMC) chief Mamata Banerjee, was found hanging inside her second-floor room at her family home in Kusumba village near Rampurhat, Birbhum district, on Tuesday afternoon.

Police suspect the incident to be a case of suicide, and the body has been sent to Rampurhat Government Medical College and Hospital for a post-mortem examination to establish the exact cause of death. Mukherjee was the daughter of Mamata Banerjee’s maternal cousin, Nihar Mukherjee.

Family members revealed that she had been struggling with clinical depression for the past few years and was undergoing medical treatment while also navigating ongoing divorce proceedings.
