Manipur: 205 acres of poppy destroyed, Opium and arms seized

Imphal, Feb 6: Security forces and the Manipur Police carried out extensive anti-narcotics and anti-insurgency operations across multiple districts on Thursday, destroying large areas of illegal poppy cultivation, arresting a drug peddler, and recovering a significant cache of arms and ammunition, police said on Friday.
In Tengnoupal district, security personnel destroyed 20 acres of illegal poppy plantations in the Khudei Khullen hill range under Tengnoupal Police Station. In a separate operation in Ukhrul district, security forces eradicated 185 acres of illegal poppy cultivation across the Khamashom and Leingangching (Mapithel) hill ranges. Two huts at the plantation sites were also dismantled and destroyed during the operation.
Meanwhile, along National Highway-2, security forces intercepted a scooter at T. Khullen Naka Check Point under Senapati Police Station. The rider, identified as Subash Tamang of Sadim Nepali under Senapati Police Station, was arrested. A total of 334 grams of opium and a mobile phone were seized from his possession. Legal proceedings have been initiated in connection with the case.
In another significant recovery, security forces retrieved a cache of arms and ammunition from Loktak Lake, east of Phubala Village under Moirang Police Station in Bishnupur district. The recovered items included one 9 mm CMG carbine with magazine, one 9 mm pistol with magazine, one .32 mm pistol with magazine, five rifle grenades, two Lathod bombs, five 12-bore cartridges, ten 9 mm live rounds, and one T-Eagle sniper scope.
