Imphal: The Directorate of Information and Public Relations (DIPR), Government of Manipur, is organising a three-day Jan Kalyan Shivir – Beneficiary Registration and Awareness Camp from June 18 to 20, 2026. The camp is aimed at facilitating registration under the Manipur Working Journalists’ Pension Scheme and the Manipur State Journalists’ Welfare Scheme (MSJWS).
The initiative seeks to create awareness among journalists about welfare measures introduced by the state government and to ensure that eligible media professionals can avail the benefits provided under the schemes.
Officials of DIPR explained the eligibility criteria, registration procedures, and benefits available. As per the guidelines, journalists must be Indian citizens, ordinarily residents of Manipur, and accredited by the Government of Manipur. Non-accredited journalists with a minimum of ten years of continuous service are also eligible for assistance under the welfare scheme.
Under the Manipur State Journalists’ Welfare Scheme, financial assistance of up to Rs.2 lakh may be provided to the family of a journalist in the event of death or permanent disability. The scheme also provides up to Rs.1 lakh for the treatment of major ailments such as cancer, heart disease, renal failure, and other serious medical conditions. Assistance of up to Rs.50,000 is available for serious injuries requiring hospitalization, subject to prescribed conditions and approval of the competent authority.
During the registration drive, journalists submitted the required documents and completed enrolment formalities. Pension pass books under the Manipur Working Journalists’ Pension Scheme were also distributed to registered beneficiaries.
Among the beneficiaries was Keisham Yaiphaba, a journalist who was formally enrolled under the pension scheme and received his pass book at the camp.
The programme reflects the government’s commitment to strengthening the social security network for journalists and ensuring their welfare through institutional support mechanisms. Participants appreciated the initiative and expressed hope that more journalists across the state would benefit from the schemes.
The Jan Kalyan Shivir will continue until June 20, with officials assisting journalists in registration, verification, and awareness activities related to the welfare and pension schemes.
