Hyderabad, Feb 11 : Every day, when you step out of your home, someone tells you, “Travel safely.” Behind those words is their hope that you will return home safely. But a small moment of negligence on the road can turn that hopeful wait into permanent grief. A road accident is not just a newspaper headline—it is a mother’s tears, a father’s silence, and a child’s endless wait.
In view of the rising number of road accidents, Traffic DCP–I Ranjan Ratan Kumar has urged every motorist to strictly follow traffic rules. He warned that most accidents occur due to overspeeding, drunk driving, traveling on the wrong route, not wearing helmets or seat belts, and using mobile phones while driving. Even minor negligence, he said, can lead to loss of life.
Driving under the influence of alcohol is deadly. Drunk driving not only endangers the life of the driver but also puts the lives of others at risk.
Taking the wrong route, overtaking recklessly, or jumping traffic signals may seem like small mistakes, but they do not save time—they increase the risk of losing your life. Remember, after an accident, only regret remains. The attitude of “It’s just a short distance, nothing will happen” can sometimes be fatal. Whether walking on the road or driving a vehicle, one must remain alert at all times.
Two-wheeler riders must compulsorily wear helmets, and pillion riders should also wear helmets. Drivers of heavy vehicles and four-wheelers must wear seat belts. These rules are not meant to be followed out of fear of fines imposed by the police—they are safety measures meant to save lives. Pedestrians, especially, should be cautious while crossing roads.
Do not exceed speed limits. Allowing minors to drive vehicles is illegal, and traveling without valid vehicle documents is also an offense. Every motorist must carry a valid driving license, registration certificate, insurance, and pollution control documents. Maintaining lane discipline not only reduces traffic congestion but also helps prevent accidents.
By traveling responsibly and with discipline, every motorist can protect not only their own life but also the lives of others.
“Your momentary negligence on the road can push not just your family, but another family as well, into lifelong grief,” he said.
Traffic checks and legal action against violations will continue relentlessly, and every motorist is urged to sincerely follow traffic rules.
