Hyderabad, Feb 22: Telangana BJP chief N. Ramachander Rao and several senior party leaders were taken into preventive custody in Hyderabad today. Police placed Rao under house arrest at his Tarnaka residence, citing security concerns ahead of his planned visit to Kamareddy district.
The action follows recent clashes in Kamareddy, where BJP MLA Katipalli Venkata Ramana Reddy’s camp office was attacked, allegedly by Congress workers. Rao had announced that he would visit Banswada to meet those injured in the violence.
BJP leaders condemned the move, calling it an attempt to silence the opposition. They accused the state government of resorting to “dictatorial measures” to suppress dissent.
The preventive detention underscores the rising political tensions in Telangana, with both BJP and Congress intensifying their campaigns in the state.
