Hyderabad, Feb 17: Several residential areas were flooded after the Singur-Hyderabad drinking water pipeline burst near Manikonda in the wee hours of Tuesday.
There are reports of widespread damage to property. Luckily, there is no loss of life.
The incident occurred around 2:30 a.m., leading to a heavy inflow of water into low-lying areas, particularly Employees Colony and Shivasai Colony. Several apartment cellars were inundated, and parked cars and two-wheelers were submerged in the sudden surge.
Colonies flooded, vehicles damaged
Residents woke up to flooded basements and waterlogged streets after the high-pressure pipeline rupture released a large volume of water. Apartment parking areas were among the worst affected, with multiple vehicles partially or fully submerged.
The force of the gushing water also damaged a stretch of road, disrupting vehicular movement in the area and causing inconvenience to early morning commuters.
Emergency response teams rush to spot
Upon receiving information, police, fire services personnel, HYDRAA teams, and municipal officials rushed to the site and initiated relief and damage-control measures. Efforts were taken to divert the flow and prevent further inundation.
Authorities are assessing the extent of damage and working to restore normalcy in the affected localities.
Pandena vagu prevents larger disaster
Officials noted that the presence of the nearby Pandena Vagu canal helped drain a significant portion of the floodwater, preventing further spread into adjoining colonies.
Residents said that had the water not flowed into the canal, several more neighbourhoods could have faced severe flooding. The cause of the pipeline rupture is yet to be officially confirmed.
