Supreme Court Issues Notice to Cricketer Mohammad Shami on Wife’s Plea

New Delhi, Feb 19: The Supreme Court has issued a notice to Indian fast bowler Mohammad Shami after his estranged wife, Hasin Jahan, filed petitions seeking the transfer of ongoing legal cases from West Bengal to Delhi. The cases include proceedings related to domestic violence and alimony.

A bench comprising Justices Manoj Misra and Manmohan agreed to hear the transfer petitions and directed Shami, along with other respondents, to file their responses. The matter has been listed for hearing after four weeks.

Hasin Jahan argued that the cases should be shifted to Delhi, where she currently resides with their daughter, citing convenience and her child’s education. The petitions were filed through her counsel, requesting that multiple proceedings pending in West Bengal courts be consolidated and heard in the capital.

The Supreme Court’s notice marks another chapter in the long-running legal dispute between Shami and Jahan, which began in 2018 when she accused the cricketer and his family of cruelty. Shami, who recently represented Bengal in the Ranji Trophy semifinal, has yet to publicly comment on the latest development.

The apex court’s intervention is expected to determine whether the cases will continue in West Bengal or be transferred to Delhi, a move that could significantly impact the course of the proceedings
