Hyderabad, March 5: Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy returned to Hyderabad on Thursday, March 5, 2026, following a high-stakes visit to the national capital. The tour, which combined strategic political maneuvering with administrative advocacy, successfully secured key party appointments and addressed critical state security needs.
The primary objective of the visit was the finalization of Rajya Sabha nominees from Telangana. Following a series of meetings with AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge and General Secretary K.C. Venugopal, the Congress high command officially named senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi and the Chief Minister’s close confidant, Vem Narender Reddy, as candidates for the upcoming Upper House vacancies. The nomination of Narender Reddy, currently a government adviser, is seen as a significant win for the CM, cementing his influence within the state party unit.
Beyond party politics, Revanth Reddy engaged in crucial discussions with the Union Government. On Wednesday night, he met with Union Home Minister Amit Shah to demand an increase in the state’s IPS officer cadre. Citing the rapid expansion of the Hyderabad, Cyberabad, and Malkajgiri commissionerates—along with the proposed “Future City”—the CM urged the Centre to raise the sanctioned IPS strength from 83 to 105. The leaders also reportedly discussed the ongoing rehabilitation of former Maoists and the release of central funds for development in backward regions.
Upon his return, the Chief Minister is expected to shift focus immediately to the “Praja Palana – Pragati Pranalika” initiative. This 99-day intensive action plan, set to launch on March 6, aims to streamline welfare delivery and clear administrative backlogs across the state. This follows a Stern directive issued to district collectors earlier this week, where the CM demanded greater field presence and accountability from the bureaucracy.
The completion of this Delhi tour marks a busy period for the CM, who is balancing long-term infrastructure projects with immediate political obligations, including the upcoming municipal corporation elections in the Greater Hyderabad region.
