TG HC Division Bench Quashes Stay on Kalyana Lakshmi and Shaadi Mubarak Schemes

HYDERABAD: In a major legal victory for the Telangana government, a Division Bench of the Telangana High Court on Tuesday set aside the interim stay order previously issued by a single judge on the state’s flagship welfare schemes, Kalyana Lakshmi and Shaadi Mubarak.

The Division Bench—comprising Chief Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh and Justice G. M. Mohiuddin—agreed with the arguments presented by Advocate General A. Sudarshan Reddy, who asserted that the original writ petition challenging government policy was not maintainable and that the schemes serve a vital social objective of providing marriage financial assistance to economically weaker families and preventing child marriages.

The legal battle stemmed from an interim order passed on August 12 by a single-judge bench, which had stayed the execution of eight Government Orders (GOs) associated with the distribution of marriage assistance. With the Division Bench staying the single judge’s order, all legal hurdles facing the implementation of both welfare initiatives have been cleared, allowing the state government to immediately resume distributing financial aid to eligible beneficiaries across Telangana.
