Tragedy in Hyderabad: Two Engineering Students Killed as Speeding Car Rams Metro Pillar at Medipally

Hyderabad, Jan 28: A horrific road accident claimed the lives of two young engineering students and left three others critically injured in the early hours of Wednesday in Hyderabad outskirts. The incident occurred on the Narapally-Medipally stretch of the Warangal Highway when a speeding car lost control and crashed into a metro pillar.

The mishap took place around 3:30 AM near Metro Pillar No. 97. According to the Medipally police, eight students—all hailing from Wanaparthy district and pursuing engineering and other degrees—were traveling from Boduppal toward IT Pocharam.

Witnesses reported that the car (bearing registration number TS 32 G 1888 was being driven at an extremely high speed. The driver allegedly lost control while navigating the Narapally-Medipally road, causing the vehicle to veer off the track and ram head-on into the concrete metro pillar. The impact was so devastating that the front half of the car was completely mangled, trapping the occupants inside.

Two students died on the spot due to severe head injuries and internal trauma. Their identities are being withheld pending official notification of all family members.

Three other students sustained life-threatening injuries and were rushed to a nearby private hospital. Doctors describe their condition as “critical.”

The remaining three occupants escaped with minor injuries but are reportedly in a state of severe shock.

The Medipally police reached the spot shortly after the crash and used cutters to retrieve the bodies from the wreckage. Preliminary investigations suggest that overspeeding was the primary cause of the accident.

“We are investigating whether the driver was drowsy or if there was any mechanical failure. Blood samples have been sent for analysis to rule out driving under the influence,” stated a senior police official from the Rachakonda Commissionerate.

Traffic on the Warangal Highway was briefly disrupted as authorities cleared the debris. The bodies have been shifted to Gandhi Hospital for post-mortem examination.

This stretch of the road has seen a rise in accidents recently, leading locals to demand better lighting and stricter speed monitoring near the metro pillars.
