Hyderabad, Jan 17: Hyderabad is set to host the 57th edition of Fit India Sundays on Cycle at Gachibowli here on Sunday, with the event bringing together fitness, mindfulness and community participation.
Indian badminton legend Pullela Gopichand and Paralympian Deepthi Jeevanji will headline the initiative, alongside several prominent athletes.
Adding a unique spiritual and wellness dimension to the Hyderabad edition, the Heartfulness Institute, whose international headquarters is located at Kanha Shanti Vanam near Chegur village(Ranga Reddy district), outskirts of the city, has associated with the event.
The Fit India Sundays on Cycle initiative was launched by union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya in December 2024.
Since then, it has grown into a nationwide jan andolan, promoting fitness, environmental sustainability and active living.
The movement has witnessed participation from over 22 lakh citizens across more than two lakh locations in the country.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has repeatedly highlighted the initiative in his *Mann Ki Baat* programme, noting that it encourages citizens to balance health with routine, activity with discipline, and personal well-being with national well-being.
The campaign also aligns with the twin messages of #FightObesity and #PollutionKaSolution, promoting cycling as a fun and eco-friendly fitness option.
The special 57th edition will see the participation of Deepthi Jeevanji, Arjuna Awardee (2025), Paris 2024 Paralympic bronze medallist and world record holder, along with former India badminton coach and player Pullela Gopichand.
Other athletes joining the event include sprinter V. Hima Teja, a double Asian relay medallist; middle-distance runner Salla Mahesh, who finished fifth in the 2000m steeplechase at the Asian Youth Championships; and endurance runner Mohit Chaudhary, a South Asian Championships silver medallist and World University Games participant.
They will be joined by M. Venkatrama Reddy, South Asian Championships bronze medallist in the 800m; Yeshwitha Potanapalli, Asian Youth Games high jump participant; and M. Uma, who competed at the AU ISBAM World Championship. Fit India Champions and Ambassadors will also participate, motivating citizens across age groups.
Along with the cycling activity, participants will be able to take part in yoga, Zumba, tug-of-war, rope skipping and other fitness activities being organised simultaneously at the venue.
The Fit India Movement, launched on August 29, 2019, aims to make fitness an integral part of daily life and encourage long-term behavioural change towards a more physically active lifestyle.
