Hyderabad: Congress Party Gulf representatives held discussions on Sunday with Minister Ponnam Prabhakar regarding the protection of voting rights for Gulf workers and Non-Resident Indians (NRIs).
They discussed the measures that need to be taken to ensure that the names of Gulf workers and NRIs living abroad remain on the voters’ list during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. The discussions were held with Telangana’s Minister for Transport and BC Welfare, Ponnam Prabhakar.
Telangana Gulf Congress representative Sutari Satyanarayana Patel and Telangana State NRI Advisory Committee Vice Chairman Manda Bheem Reddy met the minister at the MLA Camp Office in Husnabad on Sunday.
During the meeting, they emphasized the need to conduct large-scale awareness programs to help Gulf workers and NRIs from Telangana maintain their voter registration while residing abroad.
They specifically suggested organizing online Zoom meetings and using social media platforms to educate people about voter registration and voter list revision procedures.
According to the representatives, Minister Ponnam Prabhakar responded positively to these proposals. They also invited him to visit Gulf countries to interact directly with expatriate Indians and Gulf workers from Telangana. The minister expressed his willingness to personally tour Gulf nations.
It was also noted that the contribution of overseas Telanganites to the development of Telangana is highly significant. Participants expressed that the government remains committed to addressing their concerns and safeguarding their democratic rights.
