MIRYALAGUDA: Launching a scathing attack on the Congress administration in Telangana, Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) Working President K. Tarakarama Rao (KTR) declared that the ruling party has “completely betrayed” the farming community by failing to implement its core poll promises. Addressing a massive Rythu Dharna (farmers’ protest meeting) at the NSP Grounds in Miryalaguda today, KTR accused the Revanth Reddy-led government of deceiving agricultural households and systematically dismantling farmer welfare initiatives built under the previous KCR-led government.
The high-decibel rally marked a key leg of the opposition party’s week-long statewide agitation highlighting the alleged failures of the Congress administration. The meeting was held amid high political drama and tight security, following a fierce “flexi-war” and rivalry between local BRS and Congress workers across Miryalaguda town.
Taking aim at the Chief Minister, KTR alleged that the Congress government promised a comprehensive ₹2 lakh farm loan waiver but left nearly half of eligible farmers out in the cold due to burdensome conditionalities.
“Before the elections, Congress leaders gave grand promises under their Six Guarantees, assuring farmers of immediate loan waivers, expanded investment support, and bonus payments for crops. Today, farmers across Nalgonda and the rest of Telangana are forced to stand in queues and run from pillar to post just to check if their loans have been cleared,” KTR charged while addressing the crowd.
He further alleged that investment support under Rythu Bharosa had been severely curtailed and delayed compared to the seamless financial transfers provided under the former Rythu Bandhu scheme.
Focusing on the Krishna basin and the Nalgonda district’s agricultural needs, KTR raised sharp concerns over river water management, alleging that the current administration failed to safeguard Telangana’s rightful share in the Krishna waters. He claimed that mismanagement of irrigation canals and delayed water releases had left tail-end farmers in Miryalaguda and surrounding ayacuts struggling for crop irrigation.
“During the BRS regime, KCR ensured uninterrupted 24-hour free power supply to the farm sector and guaranteed water reaching the last acre,” KTR asserted. “Within months of Congress taking charge, power cuts have returned, canal systems are neglected, and dried-up fields are becoming a common sight again.”
The NSP Grounds meeting saw heavy police deployment to prevent law-and-order disruptions, as Congress workers held counter-protests in parts of the town to counter BRS’s allegations. BRS leaders had erected massive 420-foot flex banners cataloging alleged broken promises of the government, while Congress cadre installed banners highlighting the previous regime’s shortcomings.
Accompanying KTR at the rally were former MLA N. Bhaskar Rao, senior district BRS leaders, and local cadre. Concluding his address, KTR warned that BRS would take its agitation to every village across Telangana until every farmer receives full loan waiver benefits, uninterrupted power, and timely crop support.
