IMD Issues Yellow Alert for Heavy Rains in Telangana Over Next 48 Hours

HYDERABAD: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) center in Hyderabad has issued a yellow alert forecasting heavy light-to-moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds across multiple districts of Telangana over the next two days.

According to the latest meteorological bulletin, isolated heavy rainfall is expected in northern and eastern parts of the state, including Adilabad, Komuram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Jagtial, Sangareddy, Medak, and Kamareddy districts. Atmospheric conditions are likely to trigger thunderstorms, lightning, and squally winds reaching speeds of 30 to 40 kmph in isolated pockets.

For the state capital, Hyderabad, and surrounding regions such as Medchal-Malkajgiri and Rangareddy, the weather agency has forecast overcast skies with light to moderate surface showers and intermittent spells of thundershowers.

The IMD warned that intense spells of rain could lead to minor waterlogging on roads, traffic congestion, and slippery driving conditions in low-lying urban areas. District authorities and municipal corporations have been advised to keep disaster response teams on standby and monitor vulnerable locations to ensure prompt clearing of water accumulation. Residents across the affected districts have been urged to avoid standing under trees or electric poles during lightning storms.
