Parliamentary Panel Summons CBSE Chief Over 3-Language Policy

New Delhi: In a major development amid growing scrutiny over India’s examination system, a high-level parliamentary panel has summoned senior education officials to address mounting complaints from students and parents.

The 31-member Parliamentary Standing Committee on Education, Women, Children, Youth and Sports, chaired by Congress MP Digvijaya Singh, has called School Education Secretary Sanjay Kumar and Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) Chairman Rahul Singh to appear before it today, Tuesday, June 2, 2026.

The primary agenda for the meeting is a comprehensive review of the newly implemented On-Screen Marking (OSM) system used during the Class 12 CBSE board exams.

Following the declaration of the Class 12 results, which saw overall pass percentages slide to 85.20%—the lowest since 2019—the board faced immense backlash from stakeholders. Angry students and parents reported rampant technical glitches on the post-result services portal, unexplained payment failures, and massive discrepancies during the re-evaluation and marks-verification process.

Critics point out that digital evaluation has previously run into operational roadblocks at institutions like the University of Mumbai, raising questions about why a flawed system was scaled across the country without adequate testing. The panel seeks to evaluate the robustness of this digital evaluation infrastructure to ensure transparency and protect students’ academic prospects.
