Mulugu, Jan 19: Setting the stage for the Medaram Maha Jatara, Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Monday morning reopened the renovated Gaddelu and temple premises at Medaram, following the completion of extensive renovation works.
After inaugurating the revamped facilities, the Chief Minister performed a special ritual to tribal goddesses Sammakka and Saralamma along with his family. Revanth Reddy, accompanied by his grandson, offered gold jaggery (bellam) weighing equal to their combined weight—about 68 kg—to the deities as part of the rituals.
On the occasion, he also unveiled a pylon in the Gaddelu premises. Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu, along with several Ministers, MLAs and other public representatives, participated in the programme.
The Medaram Maha Jatara, one of the State’s largest tribal festivals, is scheduled to be held from January 28 to 31. The Telangana government has sanctioned Rs 351 crore for the festival, including Rs 101 crore for expansion and renovation works at the temple, and Rs 150 crore towards arrangements for the fair.
With all preparations underway, the government expects a massive turnout of devotees from across Telangana and neighbouring states to offer prayers to the forest deities during the four-day jatara.
